My Students

I am lucky enough to be the teacher of 25 eager to learn kindergarten children.

My children, as I like to call them, come from very diverse backgrounds, cultures and academic abilities.

One-third of my students receive ELL services. I also have children who receive academic services such as speech therapy and occupational therapy. In addition, I have children who are academically gifted. One thing my children have in common is that they share the love of learning new concepts and skills, especially in reading and math. Unfortunately, many of my students do not have access to technology at home. In our classroom we have two tabletop computers that are difficult for the children to navigate without adult supervision, which leads to frustration. Unfortunately, I do not have a paraprofessional or teaching assistant to help.

My Project

Our school’s motto is, “Learners for Life.” Technology is part of our every day life and learning. Children need experience with technology in order to possess the skills necessary to thrive in the real world. I hope to teach my students how to be responsible with technology and use it as a tool to further their learning. I am requesting five Apple iPad Minis and 5 protective cases to use during literacy and math centers. I will install developmentally appropriate educational apps to help my kindergartners develop literacy and math skills, as well as, foster language acquisition. The apps chosen will be differentiated to meet all the academic needs in my classroom. Apple iPad minis are perfect for kindergarteners because the apps are a fun, engaging, way for children to learn and do so independently.

Being literate is essential for a successful academic career and to be a Learner for Life.

The five Apple iPad Minis will certainly help to pave the way for success for all my learners.
