This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students don't have access to the most basic technology, let alone tablets. In a few years, they will be old enough to begin working. iPads are seen commonly as the cash register at many stores throughout New York City, so my students need exposure to them so they can get these jobs.
My students come from more than 17 countries with more than 10 different first languages spoken and 78% of our students are entitled to free lunches.
You can see a lot of smiling faces in our hallways, however many of them don't have the best home lives.
Additionally, all of my students have learning disabilities.
My Project
My students will use the iPad minis with cases during station work. They will have access to many apps which will help them learn how to use the technology as well as engage the in learning activities. Storyboard That will allow them to illustrate stories and Word Mover will help them write poetry in a hands-on way. While they may not be using the exact apps they will be at a store, they will be more comfortable with the touch screen and how iPads behave I general.
Almost every store you go into these days use iPads to ring up or service customers.
My students need exposure to this technology so they can obtain these jobs and be more successful in the future.
