My Students

My students are taking two years of math in six periods a week! Although students in this program are learning at an accelerated level they face the challenge of learning both 8th and 9th grade work in one year. The class needs to move at an incredibly fast pace to cover all of the curriculum.

My school is a sixth through eighth grade junior high school.

Many of the students travel far distances to get to this school. Most of the students are from the inner city! The schools budget keeps decreasing and we are missing resources to benefit our children. The technology has been reduced due to the cuts.

My Project

Since the class moves so quickly many students need to practice topics that are previously covered in order to ensure success in both the old and new topic. An iPad would be a great resource to allow struggling students an opportunity to practice skills at a pace that works for them. They can use apps and websites that link to my email so I can give instant feedback. Students can also listen to videos on struggling areas to reinforce what has been taught. This will allow the students to be successful in the future by reviewing skills that may have been lost while covering multiple topics. The iPad is also a great resource for advanced students to work on challenge problems, which combine multiple skills into one question. They will be able to go at a faster pace and get instant help when needed. It will also allow me to enter homework and test grades into an online grade book immediately. This will help students and parents have access to grades as soon as they are available.

Students will be excited to have a turn on the iPad and look forward to challenging themselves with this technology!

An iPad will give the students a "virtual tutor". It will help all levels of learning by tailoring each students individual needs.
