My Students

Our school is a very special place and our students are no exception. Nestled in a busy Brooklyn neighborhood, our students come from all 5 boroughs of New York City to be here each day. They stay late, busy at clubs or other afterschool activities.

Our library-loving students are good-natured, curious and hardworking.

They had to be at the very top of their class to gain admission to our school. Our school is at 60% poverty, just shy of the Title I designation.

My Project

Since our school is so large, promotion is crucial to spreading the word on library events, recent acquisitions, and news. We have been using photos on our blog and Instagram account to help reach out to the school community.

Having a designated device to use will streamline our ability to use photos in this way.

As part of our 9th grade orientation lesson, we created 4 videos intended to inform students about many aspects of the library (ex. database and catalog use, the library layout, how to find books, the range of materials we have, our policies for library use and circulation, etc). Having an ipad and tripod will allow us to create these videos much more simply, and empower our students to create original library content. We will also be able to use an ipad to use our green screen technology with students.

We realize that the Apple Care is an additional expense, but the school's technology support is unable to service iPads and they have requested that we have alternate repair plans in place. We want to be responsible stewards of these materials.
