My Students

Parents depend on schools to teach many life skills, financial literacy among them. Children have trouble following the language of money. I need to give them the foundation of finance and empower them to understand the complexities that await them as adults.

My students, like kids all over the world, are in love with technology!

They are energetic and enthusiastic learners when given the right learning tools to maintain their motivation. They constantly seek opportunities to challenge their intellect. My school is a Title I campus with high poverty and limited access to new technology. I can already see the excitement in their eyes as I introduce them to a new way of learning and an opportunity to make sense of the world around them.

My Project

The financial decisions that are made early in life impact every aspect of a person's future. I am requesting an iPad to help my students become financially literate and run kid friendly software scenarios that make them better able to research and understand the concepts of savings, investments, and economic growth. An iPad would enable my students to access sites where they would be in charge of counting money, setting personal finance goals, tracking allowances, and playing the role of banker to see how their money can grow in the future. The math software will further enhance our math skills with strategies to successfully meet Common Core state math standards and experience math success.

This project is important because it will teach my students the importance of money.

I would like them to begin to understand the value of money and to start comprehending the importance of financial responsibility.
