Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are hard-working students whose families care a lot about their success. They come from low socio-economic backgrounds, with almost every student qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Over 90 percent are Hispanic, and many of them will be the first person in their family to graduate from college.

I want to give our students the resources they need to keep them learning.

Let us think of IB and STEM education as the means of developing our greatest abilities because in each of us there is a private hope and dream which, fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength for our nation.

My Project

iPads can be innovative ways to teach social-emotional learning skills in the classroom. I will use virtual reality to help students develop empathy and look at life experiences from different perspectives.

According to Edsurge.com, social-emotional learning (SEL) empowers students with abilities that directly impact their academic lives and their success and happiness as adults.

Like all learning, SEL must address issues of equity. The teacher must highlight efforts to support LGBTQ students better, involve educating parents and caregivers, and share PD experiences that help us teachers develop their own SEL competencies. I will use virtual reality technology with my students as experiential learning tools. I certainly believe that virtual reality can supplement education in new and exciting ways. Bringing this unique experience into the classroom will make unique learners for a brighter tomorrow. Students who get to use this technology will be forever changed because of it.
