My Students

Reading, writing, math, social studies, science and art- the students of our class are learning more and more every day. The students continue to grow and enhance their reading, math and social skills. They are all stepping-up to the challenges that school has to offer.

Our class brings all that Brooklyn has to offer into one classroom.

Our second grade students are quiet, loud, energetic, curious, eager, and arrive to class ready to learn everyday. Like all classes, the students are a reflection of the community they hail from. One thing all the students have in common is their eagerness. They are eager to try out something new, eager to practice their reading and math, eager to discover, eager for art and science, eager to share with the class or sometimes just eager to play. Our school has a strong sense of community and offers our students a platform to explore and expand in many fantastic ways. However, tight classroom budgets and expensive materials currently make affording technology for the classroom very challenging.

My Project

With 28 students in the classroom and important but tough academic goals to meet, taking advantage of every available educational tool is key. With technology advancing faster than our district and school can afford, Donor’s Choose is a great way to bring some of those tools into our classroom. The 2nd grade Social Studies curriculum involves researching NY history. Our students are currently studying NYC landmarks like the Brooklyn Bridge and iPads would help the kids work more independently when gathering information.We will be starting a new initiative called "Station Teaching", in which the teachers take small groups and one group works independently. The independent group would be able to work on math and literacy or research activities on their own.The students would be able to record their work that we could then share with the whole class or other classes. These are just a few ways in which our students will benefit from iPads in the classroom to accomplish their academic goals.

Technology is the wave of the future.Unfortunately for our students, budget constraints have kept new technology out of the classroom.

Our class is an integrated co-teaching (ICT) class. Having iPads will allow all students to have more independence and work at their own pace. This will instill a sense of confidence in students and improve their learning environment in the classroom. We are asking for your support to provide these children with an incredible learning opportunity.
