Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a preschool teacher in a Title I school. The majority of my students qualify to receive free meals and are learning English as a second language. They come from low-income neighborhoods where families are struggling economically to make ends meet.

Despite what our country is facing, my preschool students are always ready and eager to learn.

My students love to share their small and big accomplishments. As young as they are, they have not allowed this pandemic to stop them from learning.

My Project

As I welcome my preschool students, I think about everything I would like to teach them this school year. But in order to have a successful year, we need to start with basic rules and procedures.

Benjamin Franklin said, "Tell me and I will forget, teach me and I will remember, involve me and I will learn."

Involving my students in creating our classroom rules and procedures would be one of the first activities we will do this school year. I plan to write the established and agreed-upon rules on the sentence strips and display them on the pocket chart stand for reference throughout the school year. During literacy time, I will use the early writing page to model correct penmanship for my students. I will also write morning messages and I will make it interactive by having the students hunt and circle particular letters and punctuation. As time progresses, the students will practice their writing skills by writing morning messages along with me using their own white boards and markers.

Having these materials will give my students multiple opportunities to be involved as we together create a positive classroom environment and have fun!
