This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Much of teaching is helping students learn to read and develop a love of reading. It is much easier to do that when a classroom has materials that are up-to-date and high interest. Students who read at school and at home are more likely to become proficient readers.
Guiding students to find books they want to read, greatly increases the amount of time they read.
This in turn leads to improved reading abilities. An inviting classroom library with new books for students to peruse, select, and read will create excitement about reading and get students talking about books. When students are engaged in reading and talking about when they are reading, they are learning. The benefits of reading growth will directly impact other content areas.
