Investing In the Future of Dallas County with Updated Technology
Help me give my students access to the same level of calculator technology many other schools have readily available. I believe all students deserve access to the highest level of education no matter where they live.
Most people do not know that the TI-84 Plus CE is the highest-level calculator that students can use on the ACT and SAT. The difference in just learning how to use this technology to aid in computing higher-level math skills and excelling on the ACT and SAT is incredible.
Most schools in highly funded larger cities and states have this technology available to them without question.
However, for a small rural school in Dallas County, Alabama, funding for this type of technology is not feasible. To put it into perspective, having this technology available for students during the ACT allows them to answer 10-15 more questions correctly in a quarter of the time it would take with a regular four-function calculator, thereby reducing the time these students need to complete the ACT. This can lead to an increase of 6-7 points on the ACT.
If my students had access to this technology, the potential doors that could open for them are much greater than people realize—all because of a calculator. A 6-7 point increase on the ACT could take a student from no college acceptances to multiple college acceptances. This alone would provide a student with the confidence that every student deserves.
My students are eager to learn but lack the foundational math skills needed at their current level. With the help of the TI-84 Plus CE as a tool, we can begin to bridge the learning gap that many current students face.
