My Students

Science is meant to be done, not read about. I believe in a hands-on method of teaching science. My students enjoy the fun and excitement of inquiry and experimentation each week.

My students are hardworking, smart, and inquisitive.

Most live in poverty and have little background knowledge in science. They are eager for opportunities to do science, to discover new things, and make new connections. They enjoy science so much they often ask to stay in from recess so they can learn more. Each time they get the chance to experiment for themselves they discover a little more about the world around them, new things that interest them, and new pathways they would like to explore.

My Project

The resources I am requesting will help our investigations into physical science. The cafe trays help to corral all the items needed for the investigation. This saves instructional time by making everything quick and easy to find. We want to use our time for science, not prep! The larger trays are used for investigations into matter. My younger students experiment with things like sand, water, and syrup. These trays help keep the mess contained. The older students experiment with waves, and these trays are perfect for holding the water. The scales are critical to our investigations. Would you believe we do not have a single digital scale or balance in the entire school? We need these for chemistry experiments and finding the mass of objects. The beakers and stirring rods are necessary for our chemistry experiments. We have a few plastic beakers but they are not transparent; the kids need to be able to view the action.

I hope you will consider donating to this project.

My students have come so far in science, but we have so much farther to go. Every time I can provide a good, solid hands-on lesson my students can move farther ahead in science. Not only will these materials serve my students this year, but they will serve many students in the future as well.
