Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students make up a diverse class full of curious learners. We are in a Title 1, high poverty area, in East Harlem, New York City. 98% of our students are eligible for free lunch.

Each day they run into the classroom excited to see their friends and find out what we are doing.

I am the general education teacher in an ICT classroom with 21 students of varying learning abilities. My students speak several languages and all bring something special to our classroom.

Our students love technology, but need much more access to it. iPads are the perfect tool for helping kindergarten students learn through games and exposing them to technology.

My Project

We are striving to teach our students through interactive games. As the students become more proficient in certain subjects, we can update and add more programs.

iPads are a great way to keep students engaged while learning.

Apple has great apps that can introduce our kindergarten students into learning with technology. The iPads will provide practice with essential skills in print awareness, phonics, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension and writing. The math apps on the iPads will provide students the opportunity to recognize numbers and shapes, add and subtract, and listen to word problems.

In comparison to other tablets, the iPad offers differentiation such as audio and a larger screen.
