My Students

My students are gifted, enthusiastic kids who thrive when given the opportunity to be creative.

The models of various skeletons will allow the students to compare the classroom skeleton to standards.

This anthropology research project will allow them to analyze our classroom skeleton in order to estimate age, sex, ancestry and stature. They will learn the techniques employed by forensic anthropologists, and have the opportunity to solve the mystery of our classroom skeleton. There will then be a creative component in which students perform facial reconstruction and write a narrative of the person's life and history. Additionally, I will use the juvenile skeleton so that my AP Biology students can compare and contrast juvenile features with those of an adult skeleton.

My Project

Students will learn basic human osteology in order to prepare them to analyze our classroom skeleton. The Bone Clones casts are high quality plastic casts that show characteristics of bones in a juvenile vs. adult skeleton and changes in bones due to traumatic injuries such as gunshot wounds and blunt force trauma.

Students in the forensic science class will use these plastic casts as a basis of comparison to help determine the biological profile of our classroom skeleton.

The AP Biology students will examine these casts as part of the human physiology unit of study so they can track changes in the skeletal system as we age.
