Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year I am teaching STEAM to grades 1-8. I like to introduce STEAM challenges to my younger students by starting off with a read-aloud. Engaging narratives can capture students' interest and motivate them to explore STEAM topics. A compelling story can spark curiosity and encourage students to ask questions. It can provide a narrative or scenario that sets the stage for the STEAM challenge. This context can help students understand the problem they will be solving in a captivating way.

Using read-aloud in this way can create a rich, engaging environment that enhances students' understanding and enthusiasm for STEM challenges.

The books I am requesting are ones that I have borrowed this year and would like to include in my class library. When children are read to regularly, they are more likely to develop a lifelong love for reading, which can lead to greater academic success and personal enjoyment. After reading, we discuss how the themes in the story relate to real-world STEAM applications, reinforcing the importance of the challenge and its relevance. Using read-aloud stories in this way can create a rich context that engages my students, fosters critical thinking, and prepares them for the STEAM challenge ahead!
