Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love when students walk into a classroom, a Computer Lab, or Maker Space Lab and get excited to see the robots. At our school we have a robotics club that uses the LEGO Mindstorm EV3 robots which are too complex for Transitional Kindergarteners and Kindergarteners. The club is geared for fourth and fifth graders because of the complexity of the LEGO Mindstorm EV3s. I believe that kids should begin learning about coding as early as possible.

I want my Transitional Kindergarteners and Kindergarteners to start learning coding skills by using the Botley Robots and accessories because I believe it is never too early to start coding.

The materials in this project include a Robot to Work: A Coding & Coloring Book for Botley Robot to motivate my students. The five Aenllosi Storage Hard Cases are to protect the Botley Robots from damage. My students will be able to incorporate the Coding Robot Action Challenge Accessory Sets as well as the Crashing' Construction Challenge Sets as they get better at coding. I asked for one Botley 2.0 Robot to show them more advanced sequences as their knowledge of coding progresses.

We live in a time where Computer Science has opened up a realm of careers. Early experiences will open up and widen my students' knowledge of the many career opportunities they can pursue as adults.

It is important to introduce beginning coding vocabulary and provide opportunities for them to code at an early age. With the Botley Robot, learning the basics of coding without the need of a screen is a perfect way to introduce it to five year olds. The Botley Robot is the beginning for preparing my students to be 21st Century leaders.
