This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Requesting costumes and set pieces for *Into the Woods Jr.* can significantly impact the learning process for students, both in terms of the artistic experience and the skills they develop. Here are some ways this process can make a difference:

Costumes: When students receive costumes that align with their character, they have a tangible representation of who they are performing as.

For example, a student playing the Baker will have a different experience when dressed in practical, humble clothing compared to if they were in more fantastical garb. Set Pieces: A detailed set, like the symbolic forest in *Into the Woods*, can help students visualize where their characters are and what their environments are like. Costumes: While costumes can help define a character, they also give students a chance to interpret the role more creatively. Requesting specific costumes (or being involved in the design process) lets them engage with the art of costuming, exploring how colors, fabrics, and accessories can enhance the storytelling.

Having proper costumes and set pieces immerses students in the world of *Into the Woods Jr.* in a way that is not possible with only a script or blocking. For example, costumes that represent wealth or poverty can directly affect how students feel about their character’s social status, motivations, and emotional journey. The right costumes and set pieces can enhance a student’s confidence by making them feel more fully transformed into their character.

Requesting costumes and set pieces is not just about making the show look good; it’s an integral part of the learning process. It encourages students to engage with their characters and the story in ways that go beyond performance.These experiences will stay with students long after the curtain falls, influencing their development as performers, artists, and creative individuals.
