My Students

My fourth graders have a genuine thirst for reading. In the words of Stephen King, "books are a uniquely portable magic."

Books take us to places we have never been before (over the bridge to Terabithia, up in the Highlands of Scotland and into Hogwarts, through the closet and into Narnia, and through the yellow brick road leading into Emerald City...)

Books transport children out of the present and into print.

Children have an opportunity to explore magical realms, different settings, new people, and times from long ago just by opening a book. My kids thrive when they collaborate with one another. While I do have an extensive classroom library, I have very few sets or multiples of texts.

My students WANT to learn, STRIVE to do their best, and CAN succeed. We just need you!!!

My Project

Implementing book clubs into my reading instruction has always been a passion of mine. Witnessing my students discuss and interpret books in ways that they have never done before is quite inspiring and motivational. Book clubs not only require students to read, but they also guide students to develop speaking and listening skills, as well as critical thinking.

My students need multiple sets of fiction books to make book clubs both challenging and engaging!

Research shows that readers who read and discuss their experiences together, benefit much more from the books that if they had read the books privately.

I am requesting multiple sets of fiction books for our Reading Unit, "Interpretation Book Clubs" Please consider making a donation to this project and further encouraging a love of reading in my students.
