Interoception: Develop our Body-Emotion-Regulation Skills

My Project

Interoception, the ability to perceive and understand internal bodily sensations, plays a crucial role in regulating emotions, stress levels, and overall well-being. Following the COVID pandemic, students struggle with emotional regulation in the classroom.

Our proposal includes a variety of interactive exercises, games, and visual aids to facilitate interoceptive awareness and understanding.

With improved intercoptive awareness, students learn how to regulate their behavior to foster a positive learning environment. We will explore the five basic interoceptive domains: body sensations, emotions, pain, hunger, and thirst using the Interoception Curriculum by K. Mahler. For example, the scratch and sniff stickers target our sense of smell, the cups will hold different-tasting drinks, the ice/heat packs address our sense of touch/temperature. These materials will be designed to cater to diverse learning styles and will be suitable for use in the classroom setting.

By equipping individuals with the tools to enhance their interoceptive abilities, we aim to promote emotional intelligence, self-regulation, and overall mental well-being. This proposal seeks funding for the interoception materials needed to implement the Mahler Interoception curriculum, as well as social-emotional wellness games and activities and supported seating options. The interoceptive curriculum targets each sense.
