My Students

My students are largely Haitian immigrants or first generation Americans. They come from low-income homes with all of them eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. They are sometimes limited to a school-home routine with little or no opportunities to experience anything outside of those places.

Some of the students have never experienced things that other children may take for granted, such as owning a computer and internet, going to a theme park or traveling to another state or country.

They need to see that the world is more than what is between the walls of their home and the fences of their school.

My Project

The Surface Pro will be use to put together a digital portfolio that the students will publish online using one of the interactive applications available to teachers, Classdojo. They will use the Surface Pro laptop to take videos and photos of their work. The videos will explain whatever assignment they are showcasing and give feedback as to what they learned from the task and why they chose it as a showcase piece. They will then have to get at least two of their classmates to review and give suggestions before it is submitted. Once approved it will be posted for others to view while they enjoy a little time in the spotlight.
