International Relations Class: Novel Project Library

My Project

I'm in the process of teaching the "International Relations and American Foreign Policy" elective at MHS. While there are certain topics/points we're required to cover, HOW we cover them is up to us. I've read several books by Admiral James Stavridis, a former Supreme Commander at NATO, and was struck how often he's turned to local museums and novels/literature to help him understand a nation he was visiting for the first time.

With help from MHS's librarians, I've put together a collection of books that will let students explore different regions such as Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Central America.

All of these books have been vetted by the MHS library staff to ensure appropriate reading level and content, too. Students will read a book of their choice and complete some multimedia project (we're still brainstorming that part, but are excited at the possibilities) to share what they learned about the region and what connections they can make with the present-day content we're discussing in class.

The MHS library has copies of all of these, but I'm hoping to establish a classroom library with multiple copies in case IR students want to double up. Thank you for your contributions and support!
