I teach Life Science, Physical Science, and Biology at our high school in Alabama. We have some great students here who are eager to learn and change the world. Most of our students are from the inner city and come from single parent homes. We have an obligation to serve all of our students with the best possible experiences we can provide, but sometimes we need a little help.
Our students really benefit from the hands-on science skills we try to provide to reinforce skills taught in the classroom.
Using hands-on lab tools is very important for the students to stay in touch and be prepared for today's challenges.
My Project
In the last 4 weeks of school we study the different phylum in the Animal Kingdom starting at least complex and going to most complex. We need squid, grasshoppers, crayfish, perch, and frogs to dissect when we study these sections. It is important to study the internal anatomy of each group to see the differences and how they grow in complexity from one to the other. Examining the internal and external anatomy of these different specimen teaches the students why the different animals are able to live and thrive in such different environments. There is no better way to study this than hands on dissections and what makes these items so important to the students' progress.
More than half of students from low‑income households
