My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. My students are all English language learners; some have just moved to the United States. Some students have no prior formal education, therefore making it even more challenging to succeed in school.

Imagine coming into a classroom trying to learn but your teacher is teaching in a language you do not understand.

This is how some students may feel. They come from various countries, bringing diverse cultures and backgrounds to the classroom. My students are speakers of many languages including Urdu, Spanish, Arabic, and Haitian Creole.

As a teacher, I am excited to help my students succeed and learn English!

My Project

My students come to me in September generally reading below level. These audiobooks can help support students who cannot read for a long period time. My students can listen to these audiobooks and follow along in the book provided to help them learn English. I have seen a student, who did not know much English, pick up on the pattern of an audiobook. He kept repeating the words from the book and that helped him grow his vocabulary. Getting a book read to you helps you pay attention to what the book is saying. My students can definitely benefit from these audiobooks.
