This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever met a group of students that love to be engaged in an exciting interactive atmosphere? My students haven't had the opportunity to use a lot of interactive reading resources because the school doesn't have many interactive resources.

My school is an IR school (growth required) with 85 percent of the students reading below grade level.

The economic disadvantages cause problems. At times, the students are being raised in single parent households or by another family member. The parents or guardians cannot afford basic school supplies, let alone reading resources to improve comprehension. The neighborhood is gang infested and the crime rate is high. My class has had some opportunities to use reading resources from teachers pay teachers. All of my children loved the activities as we did word story and practiced comprehension skills.

My Project

My students have big minds that are being filled with knowledge on a daily basis. These reading resources will require students to get truly involved with the text they are reading. They will learn how to notice features and language used by the author. They will be required to think thoroughly and methodically about the details in a text. These reading resources aren’t the old “students read, teacher questions and evaluates” model. These resources will be initially modeled and then guided by me. Over time I will release the responsibility of using these reading resources effectively to the student. I help students determine how a text is organized, and understand the effect of the author’s word choice in a certain passage. These reading resources will go “deeper than the text”. It mines what is under the surface of the words. Students will eventually evaluate or critique what is written. These reading resources will teach students to seek out micro-levels of understanding.

As an educator, I’m concerned about students’ lack of comprehension, especially of informational text.

These reading resources will be emphasized by me to ensure my students will dig deeper into the text, and start making text connections. These resources will teach students to read a text closely so they can become more skilled at locating evidence within a sentence or a paragraph or a page of a text or story.Reading plays a central role in the development of learners’ knowledge and understanding.
