My Students

My students are creative, caring, and very energetic. Our classroom is a hands-on learning community. I work with children that are 4 and 5 years-old. Their ability to love learning excites me to find new and exciting ways to teach things to them. They love to learn about new things. They love to look about pictures and talk about them. They love to look and ask many questions about things they have seen on the playground. Our school is a preschool-second grade building and is part of one of the largest urban school districts in my state. All of the students attending in our district receive free lunch and are living at or below the poverty line.

My Project

Osmo engages multiple intelligences at once - spatial, interpersonal, and motor skills. This is a more enriching experience than a simple touch-screen game where you entirely zone in on the game and lose sight of the outside world. Each Osmo game gives kids an opportunity to learn social skills and practice creative thinking with handheld pieces. Each of the free game apps are built with the utmost care for kids to use. Tangram, Words, and Newton are all certified by the kidSAFE® Seal Program. TANGRAM is a great way to exercise spatial and visual problem-solving skills with wooden pieces. WORDS, students spell out the on-screen hidden word by tossing down real-life letter tiles. An onscreen picture gives a clue. NEWTON will use whatever you place on the playing field! Start with a pen and paper, but students can also try objects like Osmo Tangram pieces or toys. There is no limit to how students can solve Newton levels.

Osmo will be one of the critically important components of my rich learning environment.

Technology is everywhere in our world and the more fun, thought-provoking, problem solving experiences my students can have, the better they will be. The low-income part of their lives may not get them many technology driven activities, but I want them to have them at school with their friends. The things they do, feel, and talk about with each other, while using Osmo, will truly be amazing for them.
