My Students

My students are fascinated with technology since many of them don't have access to it at home. I want to revitalize their passion for reading.

Our classroom of 16 students contains 10 boys and 6 girls.

They are full of personality and love being involved in anything and everything. They've come to fourth grade on a range of reading levels from the beginning of 1st grade up to 5th grade reading level. Most of our students have a deficiency of extra materials in their homes to help boost their reading levels. For that reason, there is an emphasis on exposure to experiences, resources in the classroom, and the materials taught in school.

My Project

I would like for my students to use these 5 iPads as an added resource during centers and independent work. One reason is to expose them to the use of technology in the classroom with a variety of activities. My main reason is to get more (e)books into the classroom to expose them to different genres and series. There is a vast variety of books available to them online and we often aren't able to fit in library time. This would allow the students to access the materials from the library without having to cancel a lesson taught to make the trip over there.

Many of the students don't have their own library of books at home.

For that reason, the only exposure they're getting are the books they get to take home from school. As I'm sure you're aware, there are only so many books you can house in a classroom. However, there is an unlimited bookshelf online. I want my students to be able to have more of a choice with the books they read and are exposed to and give them the chance to fall in love with reading all over again!
