My Students

"Open your math book to page 218." Is this the best way to engage students? No way! Our children desire an interactive approach to learning. They want to learn about topics of interest to them. They want to solve problems involving things about which they are curious!

In our classroom, we are scientists.

We are mathematicians. We are explorers of the unknown. We are strategists. We are learners looking for the best path to success! My students are energetic, curious, and ready to learn! They love hands-on activities, and they master concepts more easily using an interactive approach to learning. This year, I would like to provide my students with the materials necessary to create memorable math and science learning experiences all year long! One hundred percent of the students in our school are considered socioeconomically disadvantaged, and every student qualifies for free breakfast and lunch at school. About one-third of my students are English Language Learners, some coming from monolingual families. All of my students are working toward identifying with the mathematicians and scientists within. My goal is to allow all them access to the math and science content in meaningful and memorable ways.

My Project

TIME for Kids, Scholastic News, and Science Spin subscriptions will provide my students with the necessary high-interest, grade-appropriate, nonfiction reading materials that they need to develop an interest in science-related topics. The students will organize what they know, what they learned, and what they are still curious about in an Interactive Science Notebook using composition notebooks. Inside the composition notebooks, students will glue photos, write notes, and include graphic organizers and foldables to create a place to show their learning and build upon their interests. Students will use binders to create Interactive Math Notebooks by including notes, activities, games, and manipulatives that would be stored in the zipper pouches. In addition to the content knowledge, students inevitably will learn valuable organizational skills that will carry on throughout their lives.

Donations to this project will provide students with the means to learn in engaging ways.

Your support will ensure that my students have grade-appropriate materials and hands-on lessons to master math and science content.
