My Project

Not long ago I attended a training where an instructor was using an iPad along with a Smart Board to create interactive, hands-on experiences for the students. We were able to play with shapes, equations, graphs, and more. This opened up a new world to me in understanding math at a level I had yet to experience. Regardless of my deep understanding of math, being able to play with it, move it, and manipulate it made it so much more tangible.

The question so often asked is, "Where is this used in the real world?" This question seems hard to answer at times, but with an iPad and the Smart Board combined, I can create scenarios and opportunities for students to answer those types of questions.

Math is no longer about crunching numbers but about conceptually understanding the why behind all we do. I want to give that to my students in as many ways possible. I want to reach them where they learn best and teach to their learning style. They need to get up, move, and many need to interact with math as more than just numbers on a page.

We will use interactive apps and software to make math come alive. With an iPad, math can be engaging, interesting, and math can be fun.
