My Students

Do you remember the dreaded lecture when you were in school? Then I'm sure you would love to support an opportunity to replace the lecture with interactive teaching that makes learning come alive!

Most of my students have very limited experiences and have difficulty connecting to new concepts and vocabulary.

Many of my students have very little exposure to the world outside of their immediate surroundings. Several of them have difficulty focusing unless they are participating in a hands-on activity.This is why it is difficult to hold their attention without visual interactive learning. When I am able to engage my students through the use of movement, pictures and interaction I can see their brains come alive and embrace a love of learning. There are so many times when I am trying to show my students pictures or how to do an activity and lose their attention because they can not see or they are having to wait to long to see the picture. My students are visual and hands-on learners. When they have something to manipulate and can follow along with what I am doing they are engaged and interested.

My Project

An ELMO document camera allows me to teach new concepts in an interactive and engaging way. The document camera allows me to project colorful photos, demonstrate math concepts and how to complete an activity, as well as interactive literacy and math activities from the computer. The ELMO opens up a whole new world to my students and creates an opportunity for learning to come alive. With a transparency projector to much time is spent writing and erasing, the picture isn't always clear and I lose their attention. With an ELMO I can move from one activity to another with very little wait time. An ELMO also gives my students an opportunity to share their work with the class by projecting their work onto the wall, instead of having to redo it on a transparency. I can also project an entire book in color and have them follow along as I read, find spelling words, punctuation, the possibilities are endless!

Children today are motivated by video games, computer activities and television.

Without updated technology it is difficult to keep their attention and engage in them in a love of learning. Our school is trying to meet the needs of our students but the expense of updating all of our equipment is difficult to meet. Donors like you allow us to keep up with the demands of a technology driven school system. The ELMO will help bring color, life and engagement into the classroom.
