Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an educator, I am honored to be chosen to teach young adults who defeat the odds despite everyday challenges. My students choose to rise above uncertainty and normality. In a post-pandemic world, the educational imbalance between districts with adequate resources and districts with lower funding only increased, widening the gap between well-off students and those from less privileged backgrounds. Many of my students struggled to succeed academically because of the realities of living in underserved communities.

Being able to address the increase in learning loss by creating a positive learning experience and closing the achievement gap is a privilege I will never take for granted.

I teach at a Title I School in East Las Vegas in which a high percentage of my students come from bilingual homes and all students receive free lunch. My students have already faced challenges more difficult than most adults have to endure. Being intentional is one of the few strategies proven to increase learning, attendance, and future opportunities for my resilient and hard-working students. My students believe that they have something to offer the world and our school's mission is to take that tenacious energy to change the way our community feels about itself. Our students are ready, and we can't wait to show you what they will do. These items will achieve impact in many ways. The time clock, folders, pencils, headphones, and highlighters will prepare and give them a real-world work experience and increase their productivity. The educational posters and inspirational wall art give them self-confidence and a noticeable impact that will keep their focus intentional and cultivate curiosity and interest. Ultimately, these items will enhance the learning experience, improve understanding, and support my students in achieving their educational goals while performing learning tasks in a variety of ways.
