My Students

On a daily basis approximately 150 students are ready and eager to learn a new math concept, recognize a pattern, and discover its application.

I teach mathematics to eighth grade students.

Over 90% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch and have a home language other than English. Approximately 15% of my current students have a specific learning disability. In spite of socioeconomic status, family issues, and/or learning disabilities, my students are motivated to attain as much knowledge as possible. Although our school has a student population of about 800, we currently have the following items to prepare our students for college and a career in the 21st century: one classroom set of tablets, one computer lab, and approximately four classroom sets of 8 to 10-year-old laptops.

My Project

These two Chromebooks will be used as part of an intervention for those students who are having difficulty mastering the Common Core standards. Furthermore, they will be used as an additional motivator for those students who are excelling and in need of a challenge. This will give the students the opportunity to experience the techniques and skills necessary to perform well on the new state standardized assessments (i.e.,. SBAC, Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium).

Studies show that attendance, behavior, and course performance in middle school can predict whether a students will receive a high school diploma.

It is my goal to assist as many of my students as possible on their journey to graduate from high school and pursue a higher education. Students' use of the Samsung Chromebooks will allow them to access the tools and resources necessary to prepare them for new and innovative strategies and assessments.
