This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many people today say they are bad at math. Sometimes my students enter my classroom with this belief; however, they just haven't learned math concepts in a fun way. I am looking to help build their confidence and better prepare them for the math skills they will need in the everyday world.

I teach a bilingual, math class in 3rd Grade.

My students struggle with the vocabulary particularly in math and science in English. We have a high population of students who are at-risk as well. We are a magnet school and many students choose to attend at our campus. Often, we work with the same families again and again as their siblings attend. Our students love to learn in different ways. They like moving around with hands-on activities, they like listening to literature read aloud, and they love using digital resources to supplement their lessons.

My Project

These resources would help my students learn the way they play games at home. The iPad would be used for our district-wide math program and the SmartBoard software would be used to allow them time to work in groups with the games. These kids being raised in the 21st century do not know a world without digital resources. It's their favorite thing to do in their free time, so why not tap into that and let them use those kinds of resources to learn with. We would be practicing math and science skills in a fun way every day. They would look forward to learning math again.

This donation would make learning math more fun for my students!

3rd Grade is the first time they are tested as a promotion standard and the vocabulary they can learn with these resources will definitely help them be more successful on those tests. Not to mention that it will help build confidence in the students to understand the math they will need to be successful in life as well!
