My Students

My class is like a beehive. If you came in and just watched, you'd see 25 students buzzing around with an intense focus on completing the task at hand.

My students are curious, energetic, and hardworking.

During our lessons they hang on to every word. They want to learn and it shows in the questions they ask about what we're learning. Sometimes their questions go so deep, that I'm caught off guard and have to come back with an answer later. If they're working independently, it's almost as if each of them is in their own bubble. They don't break their focus until they're finished working or need assistance. When they work in groups, they find ways for everyone to be involved. They effortlessly assign tasks and work together with ease to complete their assignment.

My Project

Computers, iPads, and other forms of technology have increased our ability to personalize students' learning experiences and boost their engagement. But, sometimes these tools can lead to passive learning experiences. Osmo solves this problem by turning the iPad into a truly interactive learning tool.

The Osmo system uses the iPad camera and a reflector to create a workspace in front of the iPad.

Students use letter, number, and tangram tiles in the workspace to interact with the Osmo learning apps. They can build words, solve math equations, and compose shapes.

I plan on using Osmo across all the subject areas. In reading, students can use the letter tiles and Words app to spell words with given spelling patterns. The Words app can also be used to build vocabulary across all the content areas. I can upload pictures I use while teaching vocabulary and have students build those words in the workspace. With the Numbers app, students can practice solving equations and creating number combinations. These are only a few ways I plan on using the Osmos with my kids, because with Osmo the possibilities are endless.
