Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach pre-kindergarten at a small, neighborhood school in Central Florida. Our school is a title one school and the majority of students qualify for free and reduced lunch. We are growing our pre-k program and will be starting our second year.

The majority of our students start pre-k speaking only Spanish and need authentic experiences to foster a love of learning and an introduction to vocabulary in these subject areas.

Our students are like little sponges as they are ready and willing to participate in these new activities!

My Project

Children who explore with open ended STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) materials often develop critical thinking skills that aren't developed with pencil/paper activities. My students will use these blocks, ramps and other similar materials to work collaboratively with their peers. By doing this, they will learn to problem solve with the activity and with their peers! They will use their imagination and creativity to plan, build and develop different structures.

Pre-K students are active learners and learn best by playing!

I love when my students are engaged in authentic learning opportunities. STEM activities incorporate a variety of skills in a meaningful way and these materials are essential to developing these experiences.
