This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most people either love or hate math. I want my students to become people who love math. For this to be true they MUST develop a deep understanding of numbers and number concepts.

Energetic.

That is the word that best describes my 2nd grade class. My 20 kids are diverse in every aspect. They come from different backgrounds and have a range of interests and abilities. The one thing they all have in common is a love for story time.

My Project

Since my kids love being read to, I am requesting picture books that help teach math concepts. The books I have requested will be used to introduce important math concepts. The idea is that the read-alouds will help build background for my math lessons. The books requested here will also be available in the library for students to read independently (and they love to reread books we have read aloud).

As a 4th grade teacher, I regularly introduced concepts through picture books.

Consequently, my students found it easier to learn math concepts and increased their use of math vocabulary. Unfortunately, I did not own the books and my students' exposure to them was limited. By supporting my project, you will ensure that my 2nd graders have multiple exposures to the books. Multiple exposures to the books mean multiple exposures to the math concepts and multiple exposures to the math vocabulary.
