Help Ms. Tomicich

Put instruments into children's hands! I am a music teacher at an elementary school (grades K-5) in Arizona. The school is a Title 1 school, and it is surrounded by poverty. The school is interested in starting a before-school band program, but we have no instruments, music chairs, or stands. Thus, I am starting this program from scratch with few resources.

My school was originally a K-2 school, and has just this year turned into a K-5 school. Elementary Band begins at fourth grade in this district, and there has been no band at the school previously because it was a K-2 school. The students have no access to band instruments, music chairs or stands. Many upper grade students, fifth graders in particular, have been asking for a Band program since the beginning of the year. With no supplies, I have been unable to quench their thirst for knowledge and to acquire these new skills.

While the students can, for the time being, use chairs from the Multi-Purpose room, they are in great need of music stands. These stands would be the first step to creating a band program.

Your help will ensure that students can have a beginning band in Elementary school. Providing basic stands to the students will give them the start that they need on their path to reading and playing music.
