My Students

I am a teacher of students with moderate to severe disabilities. My goal is to place all of my students for most of their school day in inclusive learning environments to facilitate their learning in literacy, social relationships and adaptive skills resulting in increased academic success.

My students want to be taught alongside their non-disabled peers but many of them have not ever been given the opportunity.

They have spent most of their school years in segregated classrooms with other students with disabilities. I want to provide them with instruction in inclusive environments with appropriate support and well-designed adapted materials based on each students' needs. I want my students to be stimulated by high expectations and multiple resources, materials, and interactions with peers. Fortunately, most of the general education teachers at the school where I teach are receptive and open to including my students with severe to moderate disabilities in their classrooms.

My Project

With the resources that I am requesting such as the wonderfully illustrated, high-interest science books, my students can follow along with their grade-level peers in a general education science class with these supplemental materials that will make concepts super-easy to grasp. Additionally, having Write & Wipe Graphic Organizers will help my students to organize the key information they are learning in a simple easy-to-follow format which will boost comprehension. The Write & Wipe Lapboards are a great tool to use for giving my students cues, answer choices or written instructions in the context of a general education classroom that is fast-paced and ever changing. It is a quick and simple way to write essential information and then wipe it clean for the next activity! My students with the use of these tools will be more engaged in academic activities in the general education context and better able to participate with their non-disabled classmates.

Donations to my project will help my students be better equipped to learn in more natural, diverse, interactive, and rich learning environments.

With these resources, they will be more involved in general education activities and interactions with their classmates who do not have disabilities. My students will participate in class activities and become full contributing members of their general education classes. These tools will enable higher levels of engagement in those class activities.
