My Students

"By learning you will teach; by teaching you will learn." My students will apply this Latin proverb in their own lives as they use podcasting to share their learning with others.

I teach intellectually gifted students in grades 3-6 in an urban school district.

My students are always eager to discuss topics such as video games, cell phones, texting, and online games. They enjoy using technology to research topics we are studying in the classroom. My class is part of a pull out program for high ability learners. Students come to my class twice each week for 2 1/2 hours.

My Project

By having access to iPod nanos my students will be able to create informative presentations based on knowledge gained during research activities. Students will utilize effective writing and speaking skills as they plan and record their podcasts. As students listen to podcasts, they will offer feedback and constructive criticism to the presenter, who will then make necessary revisions and editions. Completed podcasts will be posted on our class website so that parents, teachers, and other students can discover what the children have learned.

Brian Tracy once said,"Communication is a skill that you can learn.

It's like riding a bicycle or typing. If you're willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life." By using iPod nanos to create podcasts, my students will learn to communicate effectively. This ability to express their thoughts and feelings with confidence will positively impact their social, academic, and professional lives.
