This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is my third year as a teacher in Houston, Texas, one of the most diverse cities in the U.S. The diversity of our school is what led me to apply to this campus because I am dedicated to creating culturally conscious learners. We are an IB campus that focuses on project-based learning while integrating the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Our students learn what it means to be a global citizen while displaying appropriate learner traits. My ultimate goal is to create lifelong readers and inquirers of the world.

My Project

Having a class set of headphones in our classroom will have a huge impact on students reading for pleasure. When students love to read, they get better at reading.

My students with special needs will be able to receive accommodations on activities and assignments in classroom by utilizing headphones to have reading passage read to them.

This will allow differentiation of instruction in my classroom. These students will not be discouraged, but uplifted by supporting their needs.

Gifted and talented students could enrich their learning by researching and completing extension activities in our classroom. Some extension activities may require the use of headphones in the class. These students will also receive the education they deserve based on their needs.
