Inspiring Young Inventors: Pitching Your Prototype

Help me give my students supplies to gain an understanding of the the invention process, apply STEM concepts to build inventions, and present ideas through the use of karaoke machines and visuals for our 4th grade classes.

My Project

Students will be able to identify and describe the invention process. They will create invention prototypes using basic materials and apply scientific principles to test their designs. Materials needed for STEM building are cardboard, styrofoam balls, spoons, yarn , and popsicle sticks. Tools for presenting are the requested poster boards and karaoke machines. Students will present their inventions to the class, showcasing their critical thinking, creativity, and persuasion skills.

These materials will allow students to dive deep into the process of invention and create tangible prototypes that reflect their ideas.

The hands-on experience will make abstract concepts come to life, encouraging problem solving, and critical thinking. By using requested materials, students will realize that creativity and invention are accessible to everyone, regardless of resources. The presentation of their invention through Both audio and visual resources will boost their oral speaking and their persuasive skills in a "Shark Tank"type of pitch for their inventions. This unit will span two weeks, focusing on a different phases of the invention process. On the week 1, students can explore inventions, brainstorming ideas and designing the prototype. On week 2, students can test, refine, write pitches and do their final presentations.

Our 4th grade students comprised with a high population of English language learners will be greatly impacted through creating, building, writing and speaking their creative ideas. They will be able to experience the creative process of how inventors innovate and solve everyday challenges while improving their speaking and writing skills.
