Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in a large urban school district. Many of my students live in single-parent households. The majority of my students are English language learners. But do not confuse these challenges with how fantastic my students truly are! They have a thirst for knowledge and parents who are counting on me to help their children become productive citizens for our community.

Many of my students are recent immigrants.

They are having trouble adjusting to living and understanding the values of this wonderful country. Teaching values will allow students to not only be better accepted but also become productive citizens in the future.

My Project

School counselors play a unique role in teaching students. They must take on the role of educating students in academic, behavioral, and emotional needs. To accomplish this, my students need inspirational items throughout the year to help build good character and values. Inspirational quotes, bulletin boards, stickers, and awareness bracelets are a subtle, but powerful way to share good choices. These items will provide the inspiration students need for school-wide events such as Red Ribbon Week, Stop Bullying, Feed South Florida, Autism Awareness, Start with Hello, and many others throughout the year. I am one of two counselors in my school.

To reach all students at my school, my fellow colleague and myself will be going into classrooms to teach lessons in character education.

With your help, the books on character education and values t-shirts I have ordered will expose my students from many cultures to common good character traits. These materials will send messages of not only good choices for a promising future, but also help build a positive self-value. The materials will be used throughout the entire school year, for grades PK through 5th grade. With your support, these requested items, our dedicated teachers and counselors will deliver small group and classroom lessons for each of the nine character traits identified as a need in our school district (Respect, Responsibility, Citizenship, Fairness, Pursuit of Excellence, Kindness, Cooperation, Honesty, and Integrity).

Your generous donation to our project will improve our entire school to build stronger leaders of tomorrow. This will positively influence our students' lives for the better because they will feel safe at school and feel success throughout their entire an elementary education.
