My Students

Do you remember reading a good book when you were young that stayed with you forever! Well I hope to inspire some students the same way.

In my school we do small book clubs to inspire reading in our students.

I have chosen to do a small girls only group as a way to not only improve literacy skills but to also build camaraderie amongst the girls as well. My students reading ability ranges from low to average.

My Project

My students need 12 copies of "Are You There God, It's Me Margaret", and 12 copies of "Blubber" for a small girls reading group. The students will enjoy the light humorous, true to life story, of a young girl that is similar in age and goes through similar life turmoils. The students will read a few chapters so we can discuss them at frequent book club meetings. This will inspire reading and build a love of words and help in their own personal narrative writing unit.

We do not have copies of these books in our school and donations of this book will not only help those that are going to be in this book club but also for future book clubs.

These books will inspire students to read more and then branch out into different genres of literacy.
