Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Light up your imagination... READ! This is the standard by which we live in my classroom. I want to surround my students with a print-rich environment where they can satisfy every curiosity they may come up with- regardless of their reading ability.
My students come from a variety of circumstances.
Some come from stable homes where learning is valued, others come from homes where survival is on the forefront and school takes a backseat. A majority of my students have never ventured outside of our city limits.
Our school serves students first-fifth grade in a neighborhood setting. Our city does not offer much in terms of culture and academics- the closest public library is miles away. Most students stay within the streets of their neighborhood. For these reasons, It is hugely important that I bring experiences to the classroom. Books are our window to the world. However, my current classroom library has limited resources for my struggling readers- the students who typically come from those homes that undervalue education. It is with these students in mind that I seek these valuable resources.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of books spanning several genres and topics. Students will be awe-struck when they read non-fiction books about the Titanic and volcanoes. They will be entertained by fictional stories when characters similar to them face everyday challenges. They will experience worlds of fantasy that inspire creativity and imagination. Students will even encounter real-life math problems through lovable characters in books! The most exciting part of this project is that I can provide readers on every level with quality literature. Regardless of their reading ability, this project will provide ALL of my readers with exciting and appropriate books that will capture their attention and hook them on reading!
Books are the lifeblood of our classroom.
This project will allow me to continue this standard and provide materials that address a wider range of topics and will reach a wider audience of readers.
I believe that inspiring a love of reading is the gateway to inspiring a true love of learning. I can only inspire a child to love reading if they feel confident as a reader. This project will provide the necessary materials to accomplish that goal. You will a part of that!
