Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low-income households and many even below poverty line. I want to be able to provide a place where they feel comfortable and safe and be someone that can positively influence their lives.

Many of my students come from broken homes, shelters, and even homelessness.

Most of my students have limited to no access to computers or internet outside of our school building. Many students view the school as a way to escape their unfortunate lifestyles. With the budget cuts, it has made it difficult to fund student centered projects.

My Project

I am a new school counselor looking for ways to make my space inviting, and inspirational to students. I am working in one of the areas in the Bronx that the need for support is HUGE. Students have difficulty trusting because of the experiences they have been through at such an early age. I want to create a space where students feel safe, comfortable and reminded that there are places and people who care and want to help them achieve their goals and push for success. My project will give them a safe haven and become a part of their daily lives. The books will help give me different ideas and ways to help them be successful.
