This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a kindergarten teacher in K-8 high-need community school. I teach a very nice, energetic and creative group of students, some of which I believe will be future published authors.
This year we were blessed with a new writing program that teaches students how to come up with ideas for writing and how to slowly transform those ideas into published pieces. My students are enthusiastic about writing and its process. They have fantastic ideas and beautiful illustrations; however, at the end when they are all done and ready to publish their piece they and I realize that those pieces, that required so much work, are not so glamorous after all. Their published pieces look more or less like the other papers they were working on all along. We try to decorate them and add sparkles and glitter but they still lack the look of a published book. I praise their hard work and tell them how beautiful their books look, but they tell me that their work does not look like a book.
I wish our school could provide them with a Book Binding Machine, but since the cost of living increases, poor national economy and citywide school budget cuts have squeezed the parent's financials, donor's support and school's budget allocation we have little to hope for.
I request your help to make our books look like what they should look like. Make these future writers want to write more, to get inspired by your generosity and help us afford a Book Binding machine. We want our published work to look beautiful and neat. Clearly we cannot accomplish that without the equipment, and your help. Thank you!
