Inspiring iPad Ideas

Help me give my students an iPad to help us create online video tutorials for math and ELA lessons. This will provide them with a differentiation tool, especially beneficial for my special education students.

My Students

My students are a diverse bunch with many different disabilities and learning styles. Many of them are from families with low income. What I love most about them is how loving, kind and warm they are to each other and the other adults in the room. They are constantly building each other up and praising each other for all their accomplishments. The minute that one is struggling or upset, one or more of them will come to their aid asking what they can do to help them.

This year, one of our students is mostly non-verbal and cannot take care of her own needs.

For example, the students take turns helping her navigate the room, carry her lunchbox, along with helping her with unpacking and opening her lunch items. They also try and make conversation with her which has been key to her interacting with her peers.

These are the type of things that make my students stand out among other peers. They would absolutely love to have a new iPad that would allow me to project lessons to the smartboard, or just take turns using it for their math or literacy game time. We are a family away from home!

My Project

Technology in the hands of students immediately increases the level of engagement! In my classroom, I work extremely hard to create an environment where my students with special needs can use technology to enhance their learning potential. With an iPad, I could create material for them on the iPad and they could view the lesson on specific skills at home and come into class fully prepared to work on those skills.

An iPad and Apple pencil will allow my students to show their understanding of skills by creating their own video tutorials which, through the use of the iPad, can be shared with the entire class or just myself, with a click of a button.

This iPad will also allow my non-verbal student to be a part of the learning community in my class. She will also be able to access the curriculum in a learning style that allows her to be successful!
