Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In today's technical society filled with text messaging, tweeting, and overall global connectivity, students need to familiarize themselves beyond their front door!
My incredible students come from a particularly challenging neighborhood in New York City where, for some, school really is the only safe haven.
Over the past 3 years I have had the opportunity of growing and learning with my students who started out as 6th graders and are now the first graduating class ever at my school. Our CTT (co-operative team teaching)classroom means that 50% of my students have special needs and challenges. The students in Room 208 are filled with major personalities, unique interests, and diverse learning styles. My students have shown true dedication to succeeding and to finding a great high school.
My Project
Having a Time for Kids Subscription for each child in my classroom would be such an amazing teaching tool. First, students in my class have trouble accessing material beyond their reach- Why think about a country and their problems 5,000 miles away when it is has nothing to do with me? As students of the 21st century my students need to be familiar with the world beyond their front door. These children are the future and need to realize the importance of being a global citizen. Also, I have noticed that students have trouble reading non-fiction texts. These news articles would help them increase their overall reading comprehension. By becoming more aware of national and global issues my students would be more prepared for high school, college and beyond!
This project really is an excellent opportunity to create and inspire global citizens.
By reading Time for Kids my students will not only increase their reading comprehension but also inspire global citizenship.
