Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It is never too early to get children thinking about their future. We always hear that question "What do you want to be when you grow up?" We are trying to help our students figure that out by starting up a journalism club.

Our club is made up of third, fourth, and fifth grade students.

These students have a love and passion for writing. We are working to teach them the responsibility of running their very own school newspaper. Our school never had one and we are ready to take on the challenge.

My Project

We are asking for some supplies to help us get our newspaper up and running. We need two digital cameras to use to take photos to include in our paper. In addition to the cameras, we are asking for memory cards to help save and print the pictures. We would like carrying cases to protect the equipment and to allow our student photographers to carry the equipment easily when covering a story for the paper. We want our students to experience what it is like to be part of a newspaper. We are also asking for a badge making kit as well as lanyard to make press passes for our students to use to identify themselves when they are working on an assignment for the paper. These materials will help provide our students with real life experiences and responsibilities that will help them be college and career ready.

We want our students to feel as though they have a voice that deserves to be heard.

We are trying to teach them that words have power and that they have the ability to make a difference.
