My Students

My kindergarteners are active children who love to move. They are building their fine and gross motor skills throughout the day. Having opportunities for lots of movement and choice help to keep them engaged and focused.

To ensure that I am meeting my students' academic and social needs, I always consider their present levels of development.

Kindergarteners are in the concrete stage of learning and benefit from opportunities to interact with hands-on materials as they interact with literature, math and science.

My Project

Kindergarten children often participate in projects that are modeled after a teacher's sample. While these can be fun, they can also create a sense of anxiety as children strive to make their work "perfect." My goal is to foster creativity and build students' confidence in their individual work and art.

Students love to see examples of "real" artists and authors and will often use these resources as inspiration for their own work.

I would like to create a library of texts that encourage students to think outside of the box when envisioning art. Process art allows children to use a variety of materials, from traditional brushes to household items such as plastic forks or paper towel tubes to create unique pieces of artwork.
