Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Please help our students become better readers and writers!!!

I work as a 1st grade special education teacher in an inclusion classroom at a high poverty school.

Despite all the drawbacks my students face, they are an extremely motivated and affectionate bunch who look forward to come to school everyday.

My Project

Many of my first graders are now learning how to read and write. Their faces light up at each accomplishment they make as they become better readers and writers. I try to make learning fun by creating learning centers for my students based on their needs. I have requested audiobooks and literacy activities/games that will help my students develop thinking skills, sound and letter recognition, blend recognition, sight word support and most of all continue to develop their love for reading!

I currently create most of the learning center materials by hand.

Having all of these materials available during learning centers would not only support my children in their journeys to become better readers and writers in the future but would also allow me the time to focus on creating more rich and engaging curricula for my students.
