Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We learn so much from what we read. Their writing engages, inspires and offers us examples of what we can do with our own writing. I teach at third grade at a Title I school. Our school is located in a high-need community. The 24 children in our class are largely Hispanic and will benefit greatly from reading published Hispanic authors.

My children love to read, but we have little that represents their cultural heritage. I have collected a list of Hispanic authors and titles that are sure to engage our students and provide inspiration for their own writing.

I have purposefully selected a range of genres. The 25 titles I have selected will allow us to enjoy, and learn from, realistic fiction and fantasy, autobiographical texts, drama and poetry.

Your help will make it possible for my children to explore literature and positive influence of several Hispanic authors, both through shared reading, small group author studies and as mentor texts for their writing. I would like to thank you in advance for considering our request.
